Description

On JK manual transmission Jeeps, the clutch hydraulic system is normally supplied from the factory brake fluid reservoir. When you upgrade to the Mopar J8 master cylinder and brake booster (P5160050), or install the Mopar Big Brake Kit (P5160051), the upgraded brake reservoir is not set up to feed the clutch circuit. Mopar’s big brake instructions specifically note that a clutch reservoir is required if the kit is used on a manual transmission vehicle.

This remote clutch reservoir solves that problem by giving the clutch master cylinder its own dedicated fluid supply, allowing a clean and serviceable way to complete a manual transmission install.

What it does

  • Provides a stand-alone fluid supply for the clutch master cylinder when running the J8 master/booster or Mopar big brake setup on a manual transmission JK.

  • Eliminates the need for a clutch feed port on the brake reservoir by converting the clutch to a dedicated remote reservoir.

How it is typically installed

  • Mount the reservoir in the engine bay in a serviceable location, typically higher than the clutch master feed point to support proper gravity feed.

  • Run a compatible fluid hose from the reservoir outlet to the clutch master cylinder supply connection.

  • Fill with the correct fluid, then bleed the clutch system after plumbing is complete.

  • Complete your normal brake bleeding procedure for the J8 master/booster or big brake kit install.

Important notes and expectations

  • Many retailers list the J8 master/booster as “automatic transmission only” because the upgraded brake reservoir does not support the factory clutch feed. Adding a remote clutch reservoir is the common workaround to make a manual transmission install possible.

  • Clearance can be tight on some manual transmission configurations. Some aftermarket instructions for similar large master/booster upgrades note that the factory clutch reservoir location may interfere and must be relocated. Plan your mounting location before final assembly.

  • Use the correct brake fluid for the JK clutch hydraulic system (DOT 3 is commonly specified).

Safety note
This is a clutch hydraulic component. Improper installation, leaks, or incorrect bleeding can prevent full clutch disengagement and make the vehicle unsafe to operate. Installation should be performed by an experienced technician. Use at your own risk.
